Ruth Lois (Gentry) Todd was born in Fayette County, Kentucky on January 9, 1946. Her early childhood was spent mostly in Woodford County, Ky. After marrying in 1967, she moved to Anderson County, Ky., where she now lives with her family.
Lois has sketched and painted since high school, and started painting in acrylics in 1975. Having no formal training, she has studied books and articles on art. She works mostly from her own photography.
Among Lois' other interests, one is woodworking. Her father was a carpenter and she learned some of his trade by working with him during the summer. Since she has been teased so much about using a hammer, she has started signing her name with a hammer by her signature.
Lois loves to capture the beauty of Kentucky and has painted many of our historic landmarks such as My Old Kentucky Home, The Old Weisenberger Mill, historic horse farms, covered bridges, old barns and homesteads. Her paintings remind us of a time gone by, and capture the beauty of Kentucky from her loving perspective.
Most of Lois' work is available in original acrylic form on canvas, some watercolor, as well as Limited Edition form on both paper and canvas. Her work is collected by Kentuckians all across the state, and by art lovers visiting our great state.
