As a young man, Michael learned generations of fundamentals in art. His dedication to the pursuit of fine art led to his continued study of the works and techniques of the masters, and his service of apprenticeship under several artists. In 1984, Michael and his wife Nancy moved to Key West, meeting with many working artists. While working there, his work was widely accepted by the national and international market.
Over the years, Michael has continued to develop his loose painterly approach, capturing the electric mood and emotion of moments in nature. Michael's artistic ability to express emotions with his free-flowing brush style, definition of space and time/light and shadow, the artist journey from the mind's eye, through the brush and paint and onto the canvas, has progressed into artistic admiration and recognition. Few artists have captured successfully the light and colors of the Florida Keys, the brilliantly hued blues of the sky and the water, the endless vistas as the clouds and sunlight create a show of colors and shadows unlike any other place on earth. These beautiful skies are merged with the scenic, peaceful landscapes of gently rolling hills of Kentucky, creating a truly breath-taking work of art.
R. Micheal Shannon's ability to paint the luminous hues of nature in all of its endless variations has made an impressive impact on the visual and emotional senses of lovers of art from all walks of life. Many noted top collectors, as well as businesses and individuals alike, including international art collectors and fans, continue to collect Michael's work.
